About THE MAC

Greetings from the Greater New York Chapter of USA Dance!

We are pleased to be bringing you for the 30th consecutive year the Manhattan Amateur Classic, also known as the MAC.

The MAC has been renowned for three decades as being among the best DanceSport events in the country. It is, after the USA Dance National DanceSport Championships, the longest-running amateur DanceSport competition in the United States. For the last several years, it has been held at the Hyatt Regency in Jersey City, but for most of its history, it was held at various locations in Manhattan, which has included a church basement, a dance studio, three local universities -- NYU, Pace, Columbia -- and the Manhattan Center, diagonally across from Madison Square Garden.

Numerous dancers who are now famous and well-known have danced at the MAC -- superstars like Karina Smirnoff, Max Chmerkovskiy and Val Chmerkovskiy before they outshined the stars on “Dancing with the Stars.” Mark Ballas and Julianne Hough, when they danced together as amateurs, competed at the MAC. And Pasha Pashkov and Daniella Karagrach, former MAC champions, have appeared on World of Dance and now Dancing with the Stars. Who knows which stars of tomorrow may be dancing at the MAC in 2020? Come to the MAC and find out! Or perhaps it will be you, or someone you might be cheering for.

We welcome you to join us for another fabulous and exciting MAC, only a short ride on the PATH train from downtown Manhattan, right across the Hudson River on the Jersey City waterfront, with magnificent views of the Freedom Tower and the lower Manhattan skyline.
